Hoary vervain (Verbena stricta) is a robust perennial, typically growing up to 120 cm tall. It is characterized by its straight, slightly hairy stems, bearing opposite, lance-shaped, toothed, bright green leaves. The flowers, which appear from July to September, form terminal spike-like inflorescences with small, tubular, mauve or purple flowers, attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies. Hoary vervain prefers well-drained soil and thrives in full sun, often found in meadows and along roadsides. It is a hardy plant, capable of tolerating dry conditions and poor soils once established.
