Brown-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia triloba) is a native perennial resembling Black-eyed Susan, but with a few notable differences: it is taller, blooms later and for a prolonged period, and its flowers are smaller. Its name, "triloba" (trilobed), comes from its dark green basal leaves, distinctively divided into three oval parts. From late summer until the first frosts, it brightens the garden with its masses of yellow flowers with brown centers. Tolerant of various growing conditions, Brown-eyed Susan prefers a location in full sun or light shade, in soil with moderate moisture.

Furthermore, native rudbeckias (Rudbeckia spp.) are recognized as keystone plants for biodiversity in many North American ecoregions, as they support a wide diversity of pollinating insects and birds that use their flowers and seeds.
