Wild bergamot (Monarda fistulosa), also called bee balm, is a spectacular and fragrant native perennial, prized for its lilac to pink flowers that bloom in summer. This plant typically grows up to 90 cm (35 in.) tall and gives off a unique scent, reminiscent of citrus, thyme, and oregano. Adapted to well-drained soils and sunny locations, it is more resistant to fungal diseases than other monarda species, making it a resilient choice for naturalistic gardens. Wild bergamot attracts numerous pollinators, such as bees, butterflies, and even hummingbirds, thereby enriching local biodiversity.
