American dune grass (Leymus mollis) is a perennial grass particularly adapted to coastal dunes and beaches, especially those in Gaspésie and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. This plant is characterized by its blue-green foliage and long spikes, which add height and elegance to landscaping, especially in dry garden areas. Reaching up to 1.5 meters in height, dune grass is essential for stabilizing dry soils against erosion, thanks to its deep and vigorous root system. Although it prefers coastal and sandy environments, it can also adapt to other conditions and tolerates periods of drought well. Its propagation by rhizomes makes it a robust plant, but it is important to give it enough space to prevent it from becoming invasive.
