Riverbank wildrye (Elymus riparius) is a robust native perennial grass, ideal for humid environments such as riverbanks, marshy areas, and floodplains. Growing between 60 and 130 cm tall, this plant is distinguished by its long, slender stems and dense, spiky inflorescences. It forms compact clumps, excellent for stabilizing soils in erosion-prone areas. Riverbank wildrye prefers rich, well-drained soils, but can thrive in a wide variety of conditions, including wetter or temporarily flooded soils. Its dark green foliage and spikes add beautiful natural texture to landscapes, especially in riparian gardens or wet meadows.
