The Whorled Wood Aster (Oclemena acuminata) is a perennial plant native to Quebec's shaded forests, generally discreet but remarkable for its resilience. This species reaches a height of 75 cm and is distinguished by its narrow, acuminate, glossy dark green leaves. In late summer, small white flowers with yellow centers appear, offering a valuable source of nectar for pollinators in the undergrowth. The Whorled Wood Aster prefers rich, well-drained soils, often slightly acidic, and thrives particularly in deciduous or mixed forests, adding a touch of lightness to shaded areas.

Furthermore, asters (Symphyotrichum spp.) are recognized as keystone plants for biodiversity in many North American ecoregions, as they support a wide diversity of beneficial insects, caterpillars, and birds that use their flowers and seeds.
