We recommend germinating your Irish Moss seeds indoors. You can plant them outdoors, but sagina subulata seeds are tiny and can be picked up by a gust of wind. We recommend mixing the seeds well with a sand (75%) / soil (25%) mixture to fill the area you want to grow outdoors. Please ensure the area you want to plant outdoors is consistently watered and moist during germination.

Here's a step-by-step guide to help you get started:

1. Preparation:
- Choose a pot with drainage holes to prevent waterlogging. The pot size should be appropriate for the number of seeds you are planting.
- Fill the pot with a quality, well-draining potting mix that retains moisture but allows excess water to escape. You can add perlite or sand to improve drainage.

2. Planting the seeds:
- Distribute the seeds evenly over the soil surface. Gently press them into the soil without fully covering them, as they need light to germinate.
- Gently mist the soil surface with a spray bottle to moisten it.

3. Germination:
- Place the pot in a location that receives bright, indirect light. Maintain a consistent temperature of approximately 15-21 °C (60-70 °F). This can be achieved with a heating mat if necessary.
- Keep the soil consistently moist, but avoid overwatering. Use your Mossify mistr™ to mist the soil regularly, ensuring it never dries out completely.
- Germination can take between 14 and 21 days. Be patient and continue to maintain adequate light and moisture conditions.

4. Seedling care:
- Once the seedlings emerge, monitor their spacing. If they appear too crowded, carefully thin them by removing the weakest or least developed seedlings. Try to maintain uniform spacing of approximately 1.3 to 2.5 cm between seedlings.
- Continue to provide bright, indirect light and maintain consistent moisture levels.
- Ensure adequate air circulation around the seedlings to reduce the risk of fungal diseases. Use a small fan for gentle air circulation if needed, but do not blow air directly onto the seedlings.

5. Transition to the final growing area:
- Once the seedlings have established a healthy root system and reached a few centimeters in height, they can be transplanted to their final growing area, either in a larger pot or outdoors.
- If transplanting outdoors, harden off the plants by gradually increasing their exposure to outdoor conditions over a week or two.
- Choose a partially or fully shaded location and well-draining soil. Maintain a planting density of 1,000 seeds per square foot for a dense carpet effect.

6. Ongoing care:
- Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during hot or dry periods.
- Fertilize sparingly, as Irish Moss does not require much fertilizer. A balanced, slow-release fertilizer applied once in spring should suffice.
- Prune or shape the plants as needed to maintain a neat appearance.
